A little boy who misses his sister being well has written a poem for her.

Ruby Young has a 45% chance of survival after contracting a rare and aggressive cancer.

While some days the tiny two-year-old is her "usual happy and sunny self," the chemotherapy she must endure is taking its toll.

Since Ruby was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, four-year-old Freddy has taken his brotherly duties extremely seriously.

Mum Vikki said: "We haven't gone into detail about the cancer but Freddy knows Ruby is really sick, and is very emotional.

"He needs a lot of cuddles as well. I was in hospital constantly with Ruby for four weeks over August and September just after she was diagnosed and that was hard on him.

"But he is an amazing big brother to her, he looks after her so well. He's the best friend and support she could have."

The Thames View Primary School pupil has written a poem which includes the line: "I want us to be able to play; But Ruby Roo is sick all day".

Vikki and dad Rob, of Monmouth Close, Rainham, first spotted warning signs when Ruby, who was famous for her huge appetite and love of cheese in particular, stopped eating and quickly lost weight.

A growth found in her stomach was pressing on her internal organs including her lungs meaning she could hardly breathe.

Now the youngster is facing an intimidating two-year course of treatment at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital to get better.

But this aggressive form of childhood cancer has an 80% chance of relapsing and at that point the NHS no longer offers treatment and the only option is help in America, costing up to £500,000.

On Wednesday an anonymous, man gave £1,000 for the toddler, bringing the total so far to £5,500.

The family is fundraising for the Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance (NCCA).

Vikki said: "It's just amazing, we're so grateful."
