Firefighters tackle suspicious burnt out car in Rose Street, Rochester

Firefighters were called out this morning after two cars were set alight and abandoned.

The vehicles were found in Rose Street, Rochester, at around 5.45am.

One engine attended the blaze and crews used a hose reel jet to put it out.

One eye witness claimed the flames from the burnt out car had 'scorched' the side of a nearby house.

No injuries were reported by the fire service, who left the scene shortly after 6.20am.

Spokesman for the police Martin Very said: "Police were called to a report of two cars on fire in Rochester at around 6.10am on Saturday.

"Officers attended the scene in Rose Street to assist the fire service. A building was also damaged and the fire is being treated as suspicious. Inquiries remain ongoing."
