An academy has been forced to close today after water pipes burst.

Pupils arriving for classes at Brompton Academy in Gillingham this morning were turned away at the gates.

The school in Marlborough Road also has no heating and a passerby said they saw deep cleaning trucks outside.

A notice posted on the school website apologised for the inconvenience and said the school will reopen tomorrow.

The sixth form parents evening planned for tonight will be rescheduled.

Walderslade Girls School in Chatham was closed on Tuesday because of a problem with the heating system.
