The three-night performances from today until Thursday October 7 guarantees visitors an out-of-this-world experience.
Rebecca Peachey, communications and marketing manager, said: "We thought it would sell out but not as quickly as it did. It looks as though it is going to be one of our most successful events."
Ms Peachey said all 7,000 tickets were snapped up a fortnight ago and put its popularity largely down to its appeal for all age groups.
It has been created by award-winning artistic collaboration Luxmuralis whose work has been shown in Germany and Italy as well as other cathedrals in the UK.
Sounds and light, accompanied by music, will be projected on to the stunning architectural features within the cathedral, the second oldest in England.
It has received rave reviews up and down the country.
The Very Rev Philip Hesketh, the Dean of Rochester Cathedral, said the event is the relaunch of a two-year programme of events postponed by Covid.
In February 2020 the Museum of the Moon exhibition attracted 85,000 visitors. The giant replica used high definition lunar imagery from NASA.
In 2019 the nave was transformed into a giant crazy golf course in a bid to attract people who would not normally visit the place of worship.
