Chatham boss Kevin Watson backing striker Lloyd Blackman to end lean time in front of goal

Chatham manager Kevin Watson is backing Lloyd Blackman to end his scoring drought but says the striker’s role in the side is more than just about goals.
The former Brentford marksman (pictured), who moved to Maidstone Road after spells with Hythe and Whitstable, hit the target several times early on but has had a lean spell recently.
Player-boss Watson said: "He brings a lot to the side. He has been a good signing and is an asset to the team. He scored a few goals when he first arrived but has taken on a different role. He plays for the team, which he does well and it is a case of managing him right."
Watson has also given midfielder Lee Hales a new role, which he feels has been good for him and the side. He added: "It gives him a bit more freedom in his play that allows him to be more creative and take the mantle for us.
"We’ve done it before but it’s one of those where you need to have the right balance in the side and it also depends on who we are playing against."
Chatham make the Ryman League Division 1 North trip to Romford tomorrow (Saturday) looking to improve on a poor away record, since winning 1-0 at Needham Market last month.
They have lost on their last three trips, conceding eight and scoring none, a stark contrast to their home form which has seen them hit 12 goals in three games.
Watson said: "We have yo-yoed a bit too much for our own good. It is frustrating, but I don’t think there’s a real reason because it’s the same 11 players."
Matt Solly is continuing his recovery from an ankle injury, while Jason Barton is unavailable this weekend.
