Kevin Watson has set his Chatham Town side a points target this season but is keeping it to himself.

The team reached 50 points for the season with victory over Ilford last week, but Watson wants to better that in the final five games, beginning with the Easter Ryman League Division 1 North games at Grays Athletic on Saturday and home to Thamesmead Town on Monday.

Watson said: "We have set ourselves different targets in-house, and I have a total in mind.

"I’d like a few more to be honest, then it’s been an okay season and gives us something to build on."

Grays, who share East Thurrock’s ground at Corringham, won 2-0 at Maidstone Road in September, and Watson said: "They were a very good side when we played them earlier in the season. They are a mature side, physically strong with experienced players."

Chats also lost 2-0 at Thamesmead at Christmas, and Watson added: "We didn’t do ourselves justice over there and will be looking for a better performance and result this time."

The Chats player-manager was happier with the performance against Ilford. "I couldn’t have picked a player who did well (at Cheshunt) the week before, but nobody had a bad game on Saturday," he said.

A hamstring injury for skipper Brad Potter is the main worry.

Watson said: "He is struggling to do the short, sharp stuff at the moment, and I don’t want to risk him until he can."
