Jumpers, presents and turkeys: When were these festive photos taken?

They say the older you get, the faster time goes and you never really realise how much tastes and fashions change. In this fun festive feature, we challenge readers to guess which Christmas the photos were taken. Scroll down for the answers.

1. Apart from the questionable jumpers, there really is nothing to suggest this photo was taken at Christmas? However, we are assured it was and actually involved a proud grandfather falling off a mantelpiece where he’d stood to capture the image. Can you guess the year?

2. Ah, the traditional family lunch enjoyed by millions up and down the land. Maybe this young man’s jumper and glasses will offer a clue to the year it was taken?

3. How often do you have snow on the ground at Christmas time? These youngsters certainly made the most of it in a year which also featured a popular Irish group singing the Xmas number one.

4. We’re going a bit back further in time with this photo of two young boys enjoying a ride on Santa’s sleigh. How often do you see kids wearing shots in winter these days? Which year do you think it is?

5. The Kent Messenger organised a Christmas party for poor children in Maidstone every year for almost 50 years. This was the scene at the final one. There was a very good reason for the tradition coming to an end this particular year.

6. The office party: the scene of merriment, fallings out and more often than not, romance. These potteries workers on the Isle of Sheppey were certainly letting their hair down in a year when Elvis topped the charts on December 25.

7. Who could forget their school Nativity performance? Proud parents, stressed-out teachers and kids willing the whole thing to be over. We wonder whether this duo grew up to be wise men?

8. Wonder what these cheeky chappies got for Christmas in a year which saw a band top the charts by asking us all to Stay Another Day? Nice ties boys!

9. Look how pleased this young girl is with her BMX – certainly a clue to the decade this photo comes from. Perhaps the wallpaper and sofa could help you guess the year as well.

10. Whatever the year, it’s always nice to get a visit from Santa. These two youngsters certainly look pleased to see him. Maybe the car across the road will help you guess the year.
