A church could be demolished to make way for homes.

Those running the Brethren's Meeting Room on the corner of Canterbury Lane and Otterham Quay Lane in Rainham, want to build 22 homes on the site of their church.

The plans involve demolishing the buildings and constructing two and three-bedroom homes.

The houses would be accessed off Otterham Quay Lane and there would be 44 parking spaces. All of the homes would come with gardens, and there would be also be a play area.

The church is run by the Long Reach Gospel Trust which is part of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.

It was built on the site in 1996. The site neighbours Cloverlay Industrial Park.

Documents submitted to Medway Council explain how the trust is looking to relocate owing to a steady increase in its congregation numbers; there were 460 members last year.

The report says the trust has found a new site a mile away in the Swale borough, but it did not say where.

Medway Council is due to decide on the plans by Wednesday, May 17.
