One conman scaled a roof while his mate stole cash from an elderly man's home.

The pair carried out their scam in Chestnut Avenue, Walderslade, on Tuesday.

Kent Police are appealing for information following an incident in Walderslade this week

At approximately 11.45am, a man knocked on the door and told the elderly resident he needed repairs to his roof tiles.

At the same time, another man was at the back of the property with a ladder and climbed onto the roof.

The first offender told the victim he had to pay for the work and he followed the man inside before stealing cash from his wallet. Both men then left.

Officers investigating have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Police Constable Lauren Evans, of Medway CID, said: “We would like to appeal to anyone in the area who may have seen two men acting suspiciously.

“These men appear to have deliberately targeted a vulnerable victim under the guise of repairing his property.

“We would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have private CCTV from that road, or any drivers who were in the area and may have dashcam footage, between 11am and 2pm.

“I would also urge people not to let strangers into their home and not to accept any unsolicited offers for work to be carried out on the spot.

“If you are ever unsure, ask them to come back at another time when friends or family are around to offer support and close the door.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Medway appeal line on 01634 792209, quoting reference 46/40305/20.

It comes weeks after Strood pensioner Malcolm Bishop was fleeced out of £73,000 by conmen in a similar incident.
