Crime in Medway fell by more than 20 per cent last year.

The latest Home Office crime figures reveal that there were 1,220 fewer offences committed in the Towns from July to September last year than the same period in 2008.

Burglary has fallen by 29 per cent which means 64 fewer homes were broken into during the same period.

There has also been a big reduction in car crime, which has fallen by almost 34 per cent, equivalent to 267 fewer offences.

And acts of criminal damage around the Towns fell by almost 31 per cent, which saw 414 incidents during that period.

Medway’s too cop, Chief Supt, Steve Corbishley (pictured) said the falling figures are down to the great work being carried out in Medway by local neighbourhood teams.

"Staff at Medway Police Station are putting in a huge amount of effort to support the communities we serve and I would like to thank them for their dedication.

"A fall in over 400 offences of criminal damage is testament to the impact that our neighbourhood Teams have had across the area.

"It is also encouraging to see the positive reduction in burglary, car crime and robbery."

Drug offences have gone up by five per cent, which is equivalent to nine more offences during that same period.

"Whilst drug offences have risen slightly we are currently taking very robust action against those involved in the use and distribution of illegal substances" added Ch Supt Corbishley.
