Motorists trying to get to work this morning faced delays after two separate incidents in parts of the Towns.

Drivers travelling along the M2 towards Gillingham, suffered traffic queues after two lanes of the coastbound carriageway were closed after an oil spill.

Highways England said the spillage was quite large and traffic was being diverted via the exit and entry slip road at Junction 4 (A278) until workers could assess the situation better and get the oil cleaned up.

Police said they were called to the area at 8.22am after receiving report a van had broken down.

The vehicle managed to pull over to the hard shoulder, but the oil has spilt on lanes two and three. All lanes have now reopened.

Other motorists suffered delays in Maidstone Road, Rochester, close to the Bridgewood roundabout after a two vehicle crash at about 7.40am.

Officers and ambulance crews were called to the scene and motorists are being asked to try and find alternative routes until the crash scene can be cleared.

It is understood police are still at the scene and it is not known at this stage if anyone suffered any serious injuries during the smash.
