Detectives investigating an attempted robbery on a teenage boy are appealing for the driver of a car who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Officers say a 15-year-old from Rainham was walking along Scott Avenue in the town last Thursday when he was stopped by two men who demanded he hand over his mobile phone.

The incident happened at about 3.30pm and the boy tried to run off, but was pulled back and grabbed and punched.

A car then drove down the road and the two offenders ran off empty handed.

Two boys aged 16 and 13 were later arrested at Sittingbourne railway station on suspicion of attempted robbery.

They have been released on police bail until April 20 while enquiries continue.

DC Vicki Roberts said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the Scott Avenue area at the time of the incident as they may have information.

"We would also like to hear from the driver of the car that came down the road and disturbed the robbery.

"The offenders possibly made their way to Rainham railway station so anyone who saw a group of people acting suspiciously is asked to come forward."

Anyone with information should phone 01634 792644 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
