Detectives investigating the death of a Chatham grandmother have spoken to a man seen on CCTV.
Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate who are investigating the death of Harjit Chaggar, 69, had previously appealed for a man in a baseball cap to come forward.
He was seen in Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, at about the same time Mrs Chaggar was last seen, on Monday, September 2.
Police have now interviewed the witness, a statement issued today said.
It comes after police issued four images of people who were in the area at the time to come forward as they could be potential witnesses.
Now all four identified have come forward, and the police investigation continues.
Detectives also issued pictures of a distinctive dark-coloured vehicle they wanted to trace as they wanted to speak to the driver who was seen in Magpie Hall Road, at the time of Mrs Chaggar’s disappearance.
Recently, police revealed they had identified the driver who had contacted police after the CCTV image was released.
A spokesman for police said: “Recent appeals to locate and identify other potential witnesses seen in the area, including a distinctive dark-coloured vehicle, have proved successful."
Mrs Chaggar’s body was found in the basement of the Sani Globe food store in Luton Road, Chatham, on Saturday, September 14.
Three people who work at the shop have been charged with her murder and have been remanded in custody. The shop has remained closed with its shutters down since her body was discovered there.
Mrs Chaggar, who lived in nearby Hillside Road, Chatham, was last seen in the Luton Arches and Magpie Hall Road area at about 4pm on September 2.
If you have information about the identity of man in the cap you are urged to get in touch with DS Adam Marshall on 01634 884010, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
The three men charged with Mrs Chaggar’s murder are Abdul Hannan, 44, of Aldon Close, Maidstone, Murshed Miah, 38, of Wheeler Street, Maidstone, and Mohammad Islam, 28, of Windmill Road, Gillingham.
They are expected to enter pleas to the charges on December 5. A provisional trial starting date has been fixed for March 17.
A fourth man, aged 27 from Chatham, who was also arrested has been bailed until Monday, November 18, pending further inquiries.
