Two dogs believed to be responsible for a spate of deadly attacks on cats have been turned over to the council.

The lurchers make up two thirds of the pack of "wild dogs" that have been roaming Strood’s streets and picking off family pets.

In the latest in a string of attacks, a two-year-old tom cat called Baby was brutally ripped apart by the dogs.

People were woken by the cat's piercing wail in Darnley Road just before 3am on October 1.

Wayne Drewery, 41, witnessed the attack and said: "We saw three vicious lurcher-type dogs tearing a cat to pieces right outside our front door.

"We quickly went to try and help the cat, but unfortunately it didn’t stand a chance."

Yesterday, two of the dogs were handed in as strays to Medway Council.

A spokesman said: "Although we are not certain they are the dogs responsible for two attacks which saw cats killed, they do match the description and look like the animals captured on CCTV.

"The dogs were handed in following a joint police and council operation which saw officers carry out door-to-door inquiries to try and locate the dogs.

"They are currently in the care of local kennels."

Baby's owners are calling for the "dangerous" animals to be destroyed.

Roxanne King, 16, lost her cat Baby to a pack of wild dogs

Suzanna King, 32, said: "I loved him so much and I hate to think he was killed like that."

In June, KentOnline reported how another cat was killed by what was believed to be the same pack of dogs just a mile down the road.

Suzanna added: "I've heard of a lot more attacks in Bligh Way, Carnation Road and Medway Gate as well.

"I want these dogs put down. They are dangerous."

Her daughter Roxanne, 16, added: "We raised Baby together, and he was a big part of my life. He was another member of the family.

"He was a real chatterbox and miaowed all the time. It's too quiet without him."
