A driving instructor has issued a warning to parents after a child narrowly avoided injury when he ran into the path of a car.

Geoff Watkins caught the terrifying image on camera as he drove through Gillingham on Friday.

He posted the image on Twitter and pleaded with parents: "Make sure your kids know to stop, look and listen before crossing, and make sure you drive carefully near parked cars!"

The shots show the child walking out into the road via a gap between a parked van and car on James Street, near Oasis Academy Skinner Street.

Mr Watkins praised the actions of the Fiat driver, who managed to stop and avoid a collision.

He urged other parents to learn from the incident and remind their children of the dangers, adding: "That kid was so close to being killed."
