A motorist who caused the death of a Medway man in Canada has been jailed.

Chris Pollitt died in June 2015 when his car was hit by another vehicle driven by Cinzia Marson, 34.

The former RAF serviceman had served two tours of Afghanistan and had moved to Canada after finding love.

He was working as a security officer and responding to an alarm at a school when Marson’s car ploughed into him near Beiseker, Alberta.

The single mother was convicted of causing the 31-year-old's death by dangerous driving and yesterday his family were in court in Calgary to watch as Justice Beth Hughes handed Marson a 20-month prison sentence.

She was also banned from getting behind the wheel for five years.

Justice Hughes said the reason Marson had failed to stop was still not clear, but that her actions had clearly been dangerous.

Yesterday the former Howard School pupil’s dad, Stuart Pollitt, owner of Rainham Electrics, told the court of the tremendous agony his family had endured.

Reacting to the sentence, he said: "We are just so grateful to have got 20 months. There was a period there where we thought she might get probation or weekends only and that would have just finished us off so we are just so very grateful."
