A packing house worker in the Netherlands has been reunited with his lost wedding ring after it was found in a bag of vegetables at a Gillingham supermarket.

Tesco duty manager Ricky Parmenter explained how shopper Jess Minson had found the wedding ring while at the store near Bowaters Roundabout.

"Our head office looked on the computer and the packing house had reached out to Tesco and other supermarkets," said Ricky. "It flagged up that a colleague had lost a ring.

"I spoke to the packing house manager and we agreed that if he could identify the engraving on the ring we would send it. He told us what it was so we knew it was definitely this guy."

Although the man who lost the ring did not wish to be identified, Ricky was told he was overjoyed to get it back.

"We sent it to the packing house by special delivery," he added. "They called him up to the office and gave him his ring back. He's over the moon and overwhelmed. We had a bit of a joke saying now his marriage is back on track and he can look his wife in the eye again.

"Apparently she wasn't too happy and they thought they wouldn't see it again."

In the meantime Ricky had put out a message on Facebook in an effort to contact Jess Minson, who had not initially left her details when she handed the ring in.

The post was shared hundreds of times, leading Jess to come forward, and Ricky was able to invite her back to the shop last week to present her with champagne and flowers as a token of appreciation.

"It was shared over 500 times, " added Ricky. "Luckily enough it was shared in a group in Gillingham and she got in touch.

"When we put it on Facebook people were saying this is a great story."
