An elderly couple were treated for smoke inhalation last night (Sunday) after a bungalow fire.

Firefighters were called to the terraced property in Wright Close, Twydall, just after 9pm.

The fire seriously damaged the roof with firefighters estimating half of it had been destroyed. No other properties were damaged.

It is unclear exactly what caused the fire, but an electrical fault is thought to be to blame.

The Red Cross were also in attendance alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Firefighters from Medway, Rainham and Gillingham left the scene at about 11.10pm.
