An elderly driver has crashed his car into a house in Rainham this afternoon.

The man smashed into the front porch of a house in Brown Street shortly before 2pm.

It is believed he lost control of his silver Peugeot 307 and mounted the pavement before careering across the drive and smashing into the front of the house.

The man, thought to be in his 70s, suffered a leg injury and was trapped in the car.

He was cut out of the car by Medway firefighters, who were sent to the scene along with police and ambulance crews.

A woman who lives in the house was shaken up by the incident, but was not injured and has had to leave the home temporally until it can be deemed safe.

Her next door neighbour Jackie Walder also had damage to her home.

Jackie said: "It looks like he lost control in Holding Street as you can see the tyre marks on the road.

"He's managed to get through two posts and up on the drive - it's very lucky no one was killed.

"My neighbour is OK, but was shaken up. We've now got structural engineers looking at our homes to see if they are safe, so that's a bit worrying."

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed the man was rescued from his car and suffered a leg injury.
