Drivers are expected to face delays for up to a week following an emergency gas escape.

Roadworks set up at the junction of Station Road and Frindsbury Road, Strood, on Sunday, have caused problems as SGN completes work.

Traffic on both roads is moving slower than usual due to temporary traffic lights by The Shrubbery care home.

They're expected to be in place until Monday, January 20.

SGN spokesman Dan Brown said: "Our engineers are investigating a gas escape in Frindsbury Road.

"We’re working to identify the location of the leak and then we’ll be able to carry out the required repairs to our network. To ensure everyone’s safety while we make our repair, we’ve needed to install temporary traffic lights in Frindsbury Road at its junction with Station Road.

"We’re monitoring the site 24 hours a day and working as quickly and safely as possible to fix the leak.

"It’s too early at this stage to say how long it may take to complete this emergency work, but we expect the lights to remain in place until at least this weekend."
