A legendary nightclub has had its final party.

Bosses at MooMoo Clubrooms, Canterbury Street, Gillingham, have confirmed it is shutting down.

In recent years the club was famed for freshers' events, and UV parties with foam, paint and ball pits.

They were almost a rite of passage for students from the University of Kent's Medway campus.

The occasional grime nights were also very popular.

It has not always been known by the cow-sound name, previously it was called Bliss. But it was transformed in 2016 into MooMoo.

There were three rooms, with DJs playing RnB, and pop, plus a cheese-room (classic hits) downstairs.

Back in the late 1970s, club goers would be met with strobe lighting, pop and disco music when it was called Joanna's.

Then in the '80s it was known as Catch 22, then The Ritzy and by the '90s it was called The Zone.

Ex club goer Ross Huchinson said: "My favourite memories of the place were the student nights which they held on Thursdays and the frequent foam parties... although I remember we all used to have really itchy eyes when we showed up at school the next day.

"I went a few times when it was Bliss.

"Every time I went I always felt it was getting quieter and quieter.

"It’s such a shame, because it used to be rammed.

"With that place closing down, that really is the end of an era.

"It really was the last of the original dance music clubs that Medway had... the other two being Excalibur and Bar Rio."
