England A squad golfer Jack Colegate takes a step closer to the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes

Rochester & Cobham Golf Club teenager Jack Colegate has taken a step nearer to competing in next month's Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

The 19-year-old England A squad member was one of 12 players from Monday's Regional Qualifying at The London Club to book a place in Local Final Qualifying, which will be held at one of four courses in the north-west of England on July 3.

Colegate shot a 72 to qualify along with fellow Kent players Connor Fletcher (Chart Hills), who fired a 71, and Warren Bennett (Prince's) and Jerome Titlow (Knole Park) who both shot 72s.

The winner was Gary King from Tyrrells Wood GC in Surrey with a 70.

Todd Adcock from The Nevill GC at Tunbridge Wells shot a 67 to finish one shot behind the winner, Chris Cannon (Champions Gate), in the Regional Qualifier held at East Sussex National GC.

Three other Kent players qualified from the same course, Max Orrin (North Foreland) with a 71, and Thomas Muchmore (Ashford) and Gary Hazelby (Nizels) who both shot 72.
