A family have once again impressively dressed their house up for Halloween as they collect food and money for charity.

The Hedges clan have transformed their family home in Wigmore Road, Gillingham into a haunted mansion for the spooky season in their new tradition.

This time they have chosen to again collect food donations for Medway Foodbank which visitors can contribute to by putting items in the trolley outside the property.

Daughter Lavinia Hedges said: "There is a huge crisis in the food industry. We thought it would be a good thing to do. People started putting stuff in the trolley. It has become a real big success."

They are also raising money for the My Shining Star, a Rainham children's cancer charity which supports families and provide magical experience for children and parents.

The 24-year-old added: "They are a fantastic local charity. We leave it to people to donate so they do not feel obliged to do it."

Already £350 has been raised and the family hopes to reach £1,000 by the end of the month.

Lavinia said this year's house was inspired by The Muppets and the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland which the family are all huge fans of.

Her dad Cleveland has even created stretching portraits similar to those at the amusement park which can be seen outside the front of the display.

Other decorations include Muppet characters, a projector which shows a dancing skeleton, lights and music many of which the fundraisers have been collecting since January and purchasing off Facebook marketplace for free and charity shops.

The children's entertainer added: "It is magical really. There is a lot to see. The thing with my mum is she is a perfectionist. There are things in every nook and cranny."

Lavinia's mum Nicola, who with her husband are foster parents, is said to be the mastermind behind the houses. Lavinia added: "My mum is incredible. It is her all over."

Their tradition started last Halloween when they wanted to create community spirit after the endless lockdowns and "to make a difference".

It has since spiralled with the family dressing their house up for most seasons with the police even turning up to see what the commotion was after their house attracted large groups.

This is their next display after an impressive effort last spring where they raised money for Diabetes UK and collected donations for Medway Foodbank.

The display will be up until November 1 and will even be visited by some famous faces at the end of October with Lavinia's company Wish Upon A Dream Parties hosting a story-time experience bookable through Facebook.
