Fire crews tackle magazine truck blaze

A lorry full of magazines has caught on fire on the roundabout at the top of Blue Bell Hill, Chatham.

The HGV lorry, caught alight at about 10.20am this morning at the Lord Lees’ roundabout, close to the entrance of Buckmore Park karting circuit.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Two appliances are at the scene, one from Medway and another from Maidstone, we are currently trying to get a fork lift truck there so we can remove the burning pallets of magazines from the lorry.

Firefighters are still trying to put out the flames."

The incident caused disruption to motorists with the Lord Lees roundabout on the A229 temporarily closed to traffic.

The M2 slip roads on and off at junction 3 were also affected. The road was finally re-opened at 3.15pm.
