Firefighters spent two hours tackling a garage blaze in Chatham last night (Wednesday).

Two crews were called to Castle Road, Luton, at 9.30pm. Rubbish inside the garage is thought to have been set alight deliberately. The flames spread to a car parked inside and the rest of the building.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "The fire had gone through the roof. The flames were about 10ft to 15ft high and there was smoke drifting across Castle Road.

"It took about four tanks of water to put out the blaze because there was a lot of material alight and the fire was quite deep-seated. We had to set up a water shuttle to get more water."

The crews left the scene at 11.30pm.
