Firefighters have thanked people in Medway for keeping safe during their 24-hour strike.

Crews were called out on a number of small incidents during the day yesterday and last night, after crews walked out at 9am.

In the morning one pump from Strood was called out to a road traffic collision in London Road, but no-one was trapped.

Around 5pm they were called out again a fire in a skip in Courtney Road, Rainham, and just after 6pm there was a small fire in woodland near Heron Way, Chatham.

Then shortly before 10.30pm firefighters attended a car alight in Banks Road, Rochester, but no action was needed.

A spokeswoman for KFRS said: "There has been a low level of activity so far today, and KFRS has thanked the public for heeding safety warnings."

The strike is part of the ongoing dispute with the government over pensions and it will be followed by a similar nationwide walk-out on Saturday, June 21, between 10am and 5pm.
