The Environment Agency has issued a series of flood alerts for areas right along the Kent coast and a flood warning for the River Medway basin.

The area from Ramsgate to Kingsdown, including Sandwich and Deal, should be on alert for coastal flooding with high water levels forecast for tomorrow (Monday) morning, as a result of high spring tides.

Tides will be at their highest between 10.15am and 11.15am.

The agency said: “We expect flooding to affect coastal areas, particularly low-lying land and roads nearest the sea and low-lying land along the tidal Stour.”

A flood warning has been issued for the tidal section of the River Medway, including Aylesford, Larkfield, Wouldham, Medway Towns, Upnor, Hoo, Lower Halstow and the Isle of Grain, Middle Stoke and Lower Stoke.

The peak period is expected for tomorrow afternoon between noon and 2.30pm, with flooding expected particularly in Lower Upnor, Canal Road in Strood, and outer parts of the Medway Estuary.

The agency said: “People in the areas should consider taking action now. We urge all people to take care and not drive through flood water.

A flood alert has been issued for the Isle of Sheppey and for the coast from Kemsley to Seasalter, including Sheerness, Minster, Queenborough, Leysdown on Sea, Sittingbourne and Faversham.

At Sheerness, peak water is expected at 1pm tomorrow, but there will be higher than normal tides for the next three days.

There is also a flood alert for the coast from Whitstable to Margate, including Herne Bay, Reculver, Marshside, Saint Nicholas at Wade, Birchington and Westgate-on-Sea.

Again the peak period will be between noon and 2.30pm.

The biggest risk of flooding on the coast from St Margaret's at Cliffe to Sandgate, including Dover and Folkestone, will be between 10.15am and 11.15am tomorrow.

It comes after weather warnings for parts of the county were issued for the next two days.
