Coronavirus Kent: Chatham Maritime Food and Drink Festival postponed

A food festival in Medway is among many events across the county which has been postponed.

The Chatham Maritime Food and Drink Festival was due to take place in May, but has now been pushed back to September.

Organisers Chatham Maritime Trust released a statement saying the event – which includes the Medway Sunlight Rotary Charity Dragon Boat Challenge – will now take place on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20.

David Taylor, president of Medway Sunlight Rotary, said: “The Dragon Boat Challenge raises around £15,000 for Children's Hospice Holidays and many other Rotary charities, allowing us to deliver on our mission statement to "Help Others and Make a Difference" during the following year."

Jeskyns Community Woodland in Cobham, near Gravesend, has also closed to visitors, as has Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in the town.

Those running the place of worship, off Saddington Street, are looking to broadcast Nitnem Sikh hymns on their social media page.

Last week, Medway Council announced a number of events had been called off.

Numerous other events have been scrapped across the county including some major festivals.

Business Vision Live which normally attracts 3,000 people at the Kent Event Centre in Detling has been postponed for a year.

It was due to take place on Wednesday, May 13, but it will now take place on May 12, 2021.

A concert by London band Peachy Beat due to take place at Boughton Monchelsea Village Hall on Saturday, May 2, has been cancelled.

A spring walk for members of the Valley Conservation Society due to take place around the land owned by the society in the Lower Loose Valley, near Maidstone, on Saturday, April 25, has been cancelled.

The outdoor antique market Walmer Brocante has been postponed.

The event, which sees curiosities of all shapes and sizes sold from Walmer Green, was due to take place on Saturday, May 9.

A representative of organisers Walmer Parish Council will be in touch with those who have booked pitches to discuss options.

So far no date for the rescheduled event has been given.

An annual trek in aid of breast cancer research, support and treatment, Crocus Walk, has also been postponed.

The 15km trek sees a swathe of pink-wearing walkers amble across the White Cliffs of Dover for Breast Cancer Now.

But this April's effort have been put back by organiser Kerry Banks who set it up 11 years ago in memory of friend Julie Mortimer.

It has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 19 from 10am to 2.30pm.

Walkers can re-register for the walk from Julie's Bench, at Walmer's Gravel Car Park to St Margaret's and back on the event's Facebook page.

Additionally, theatres in Sheppey and Sheerness have cancelled some of their shows.
