A former town centre Wilko has been put on the market.

The 14,529sq ft unit, in Strood High Street, is being listed by property consultants Cradick Retail just months after the company went into administration.

There was hope some of Kent’s Wilkos would remain open after a handful of the stores were missed in the first announcement.

However, the budget retailer, which had 13 stores across the county, failed to secure emergency funding and all its shops were shut by October last year.

The unit in Strood, which closed in September, is now up for let.

It is described as benefitting from a “large and prominent” dual front facing the High Street and from neighbouring Asda’s car park.

The price of rent has not been released and is only available on application.

It comes as B&M looks poised to take over another former Wilko in the Towns.

Last year the rival discount chain confirmed it would be snapping up 51 Wilko stores across the country in a £13 million deal.

A premises licence application to sell alcohol has been made to Gravesham and Medway Council’s shared licensing service by the firm for the vacant unit in Rainham Shopping Centre.
