A quick-thinking four-year-old boy has been recognised after he used his mother's iPhone to call 999 when she collapsed at their home in Chatham.

Harvey Parsloe has been given a special achievement certificate by the South East Coast Ambulance Service for his actions.

Harvey called his father first after his mother, Cassandra Parsloe, 27, blacked out after picking him up from school on Wednesday, January 18.

Harvey and his younger brother Louis with mum Cassandra and SECAmb's Sally Burchett and Darren Climpson.

Dad Daniel, 31, was minutes away from their home on Mill Lane, but Harvey, after speaking with his father, went on to call 999 and ask for an ambulance for his mother.

Harvey, who was at home with his one-year-old brother Louis, used the voice control Siri on his mum's iPhone to flag up the emergency.

The schoolboy described his mother's condition to SECAmb Emergency Medical Advisor, Sally Burchett, even describing the postcode of his family home using the phonetic alphabet.

Daniel returned home and continued to speak to Sally before the UK Specialist Ambulance Services crew, Darren Climpson and Barbara Manktelow, assessed and treated Cassandra before she was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for further checks.

Sally and Darren presented the four-year-old with the award, and spent time at Medway Ambulance Station in Chatham.

Sally, who works out of the Trust’s Crawley Emergency Operations Centre, said: “Harvey
did a great job; he was amazing.

"He clearly answered all my questions, including, most importantly, where he lived, including telling me his postcode phonetically, which I understand he has picked up from him mum and also uncle who is a police officer.

Harvey was awarded the certificate for his quick action.

"He was very brave and calm and his parents should be very proud.

"I was delighted to present him with his certificate which he really deserves.”

Harvey, who has ADHD, also received a special award from his school, New Horizons Children's Academy in Chatham.

Cassandra, who has recovered well but is due to have further tests added: “When I was told that Harvey had called 999 I couldn’t believe it.

"He did such a good job looking after me and getting me the help I obviously needed.

"My husband and I are very proud of him and it was lovely for him to be able to go to the ambulance station to be shown round and receive his certificate.”
