An old toilet will be transformed into a micropub after plans were approved.

The public convenience sits in the viaduct arch under New Road, Chatham.

It closed to the public in 2000 but was still used by customers of the neighbouring barber shop, which closed in 2010.

Micropubs put the emphasis on real ale and good conversation.

Beer is served straight from the cask, spirits and food are off the menu and talking on mobile phones is banned.

In his application to Medway Council, Clive Puddy said he would lease the building, which will be “tastefully refurbished and managed for the local community and visitors alike”.

The bar area will be less than two metres wide and just over three metres long and will be open between 11am and 11pm seven days a week.
