An electric generator company has acquired a former coach depot.

In October last year, National Express Transport Solutions (NETS) announced it was shutting The Kings Ferry base in Gillingham after 55 years.

The Medway depot, in Eastcourt Lane, Twydall, Gillingham, shut along with the firm’s Clarkes of London depot at Sydenham in London.

Now, MEMS Power Generation has acquired the former site, which is near to its existing headquarters in Gillingham.

It offers emergency generation hire 24 hours a day, as well as access to generation hire specialists.

The expansion means the electric generator company has nearly 11 acres at its headquarters, making it the “largest generator rental depot in the UK”.

The new site will support the growth of MEMS and enable further development.

The Kings Ferry axed its commuter services from Kent and Medway to London in 2021 after 40 years of operation.

At the time a spokesman said passenger numbers had reduced because of Covid-19 lockdowns.
