Firefighters were called to Grove Road, Strood after oven caught light from a build up of fat

A build up of fat in an oven caught light and caused a gas leak.

Firefighters were called to a flat fire Grove Road, Strood on Sunday at 1.30pm.

The fire started accidentally after a build up of fat in the oven ignited. The fire then caused a gas leak in the hob.

Crews isolated the power and made the scene safe.

They gave the resident home fire safety advice and are urging others to keep their kitchen appliances clean to avoid grime fires, caused by a build up of fat and grease in kitchen equipment like ovens, grills and on hobs.
