Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga made his first league appearance for Gillingham at the weekend.

The 19-year-old Argentinian keeper came off the bench in the second half to replace Ross Flitney.

Gills’ regular keeper Flitney was taken off after a poor first 45 minutes in which Andy Hessenthaler’s men conceded four goals against Accrington Stanley in a 4-3 defeat.

Their opponents took the lead just 45 seconds into the match after a routine clearance from Flitney was thrown straight to an Accrington player.

"I wasn’t happy with him and we made the statement," said the Gills boss.

"I could have taken them all off after that first half. We do match reports on teams but if they don’t listen then they won’t be in the team."

Gazzaniga (pictured), who was a trainee with Valencia, has previously played for the Gills in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the FA Cup.

Hessenthaler said: "Paulo didn’t have much to do in the second half but what he did do, he did well."
