This was the day five generations got together – and one they thought would never happen.

Little Sienna arrived on Saturday, September 5, a first-born for mum Megan and Claire Watkins's first grandchild.

The tot's great, great grandma, Doreen Head, was diagnosed with Covid-19 and spent two weeks in Medway hospital battling the virus.

Miraculously, the 87-year-old, who was one of the first in the Towns to test positive in mid-March, has now recovered and is back at her Hoo home.

Pre-school teacher Claire, 42, said: "We did not think she would make it to see her great great grand-daughter.

"We were told to expect the worst. But she's a tough old cookie and pulled through."

As soon as Megan Randall, 22, and partner Elliot were allowed to take their little girl home, the family started to make arrangements for a get-together.

And, with social distancing rules and the ban on no more than six people meeting around the corner, the race was on.

Mrs Watkins,who lives with husband Martin in Montgomery Avenue, Walderslade , said: "She was over the moon. My dad went there first and then we turned up. It was a surprise

"She was just looking at her, saying she was the most beautiful baby she had ever seen. It was a real high after a difficult few months.

Proud mum Megan, who lives in, Sandling, Maidstone , said: "It was quite emotional. To have five generations in a room was just amazing."

With the "rule of six" now in operation, the close-knit family, who also include great granddad Keith Head, 66, and great grandmother Trisha 66, from Walderslade , will be keeping in touch by phone.

And they will be keeping their fingers crossed that restrictions will be lifted for Christmas which promises to be extra special for them.
