The next phase of a waterfront development for 237 homes in Medway has been given the go-ahead.
Planners have approved the plans at Chatham Waters on the River Medway for the new homes available on affordable housing schemes.
Developers Peel L&P and Legal & General Affordable Homes (LGAH) submitted plans in September for a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom town houses.
They will be released on shared ownership and affordable rent schemes.
The development will also feature a new Central Park in the overall regeneration of the waterfront site which previously formed part of Chatham Dockyard.
The park will provide an acre of green space for residents and visitors to use with trees, planting, seating and communal play areas.
It will add to the hundreds of homes already built, and the Asda superstore, pub and University Technical College campus on the 26-acre site.
Peel says it has invested £100 million into the site and created 750 full time jobs which brings £19m into the Medway economy.
The company says it is now expecting to start work on the latest phase of housing and park in the spring which will take two years to complete.
James Whittaker, Peel L&P executive director of development said: “This is such an exciting development. Delivering affordable homes at Chatham Waters is key to Peel L&P’s vision to provide a range of mixed-tenure homes and jobs as part of the regeneration of the wider area.
"The new Central Park, will be a key feature in the local community for residents and non-residents to enjoy."
Ben Denton, LGAH chief executive, added: “We are committed to helping tackle the UK’s urgent housing crisis. We are well-placed to invest institutional capital at scale to provide safe, secure, affordable housing where it’s needed most, whilst delivering a first-class experience for our customers.
"Delivering affordable homes at Chatham Waters is key to Peel L&P’s vision..."
"Chatham Waters is a fantastic example of our vision in action, and we are pleased to partner with Peel L&P and Medway Council to take the next step in providing local families and residents with high quality, affordable housing options.”
