A house in Gillingham was struck by lightning during freak storms yesterday, Tuesday.
The roof of the home, in Hotel Road, was set alight by the strike at about 4.15pm.
Firefighters from Gillingham and Medway fire stations were called out to the property to put out the flames and spent about two hours at the scene. No one was in the house at the time

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Some wooden beams in the loft had caught alight
“We put the fire out by entering the house and going through the loft hatch. When the flames had been dampened we used our ladder to get on to the roof to take some tiles off.
“This was to make sure there was no hidden flames anywhere, there is a bit of fire and water damage to the loft area, but the rest of the house was saved.
“We left the scene shortly after 6pm when we made sure the there were no more flames anywhere and the homeowner had arrived back by that time.”
