Unpopular plans to develop land in Rainham will come back under the spotlight next week - with councillors being urged to approve the scheme.

The decision on whether to permit 13 new homes off Berengrave Lane was initially deferred to enable a site visit - and residents gathered in force to explain their fears when councillors went to view the location last month.

Accidents, congestion, rat-running and road rage incidents would all be exacerbated by the development, said protesters - and they will finally find out on Wednesday, July 27, whether their pleas have had any impact on the minds of councillors.

The recommendation from planning officers however, remains as before - to grant approval, on the grounds that the development is "acceptable and no objection is raised in terms of design and appearance, residential amenity, highways and parking, the impact on trees., ecology contamination and flooding."

But that assertion is in stark contrast to the 35 letters of objection stating almost exactly the opposite.
