In Pictures: Final day of Medway Pride with march through Rochester High Street

Hundreds of people wearing bright colours and waving rainbow flags marched through a town this morning.

It is Medway Pride’s final day of celebrations today (August 17) and crowds of people have already taken part in the annual parade along Rochester High Street.

Starting at 10am, marching bands, performers and people wearing all the colours of the rainbow and waving or carrying large flags walked towards Rochester Castle.

Resident Jonna Melling said: “It was such a fun parade. Brilliant fun.”

Staff from Medway NHS Foundation Trust also joined in the parade for the second year. A spokesman added: “What a fantastic atmosphere at Medway Pride.”

For the remainder of the day, there will be various live performances on the main stage in the grounds of the castle.

These include X-Factor winner Louisa Johnson, singer Tara McDonald, Amy Winehouse tribute Tania Alboni, 90s tribute Tania Alboni and drag acts Tiffaney Wells and Drag With No Name.

There will also be various stalls and other entertainment throughout the day.

Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Vince Maple, said: “A huge thanks to everyone who makes this event possible, [we] hope to see you during the parade or at the Castle Gardens.”

The show will finish at 8pm, however, there will be celeberations at The Ship and bands perfoming at Poco Loco, The Rising Sun and The Boathouse.

There has been a week-long programme of events across the Towns at venues in Medway’s Intra area, between Chatham and Rochester, including a range of entertainment and showcases.
