Electricity has been restored after hundreds of people were left without power today.

Three postcodes around Kent were told they would be without power for around three to four hours while UK Power Networks tried to fix the problem.

After engineers carried out emergency works, power has now been restored to the homes.

In total, just over 850 homes in and around Medway, including the ME42, ME59, GU14 and ME23 areas, were affected.

A statement on the power provider’s website said: “We're sorry for any disruption this may have caused you.

“As this was an unexpected power cut, we didn't know it was going to happen so we were unable to give you advanced notice.”

At 4.40pm, the company said engineers were on their way to investigate, before adding: “Originally, we believed this issue to be a fault on our network, but we have been made aware that due to a low overhead cable, our engineers have had to turn power off remotely in the interest of public safety.”
