Jamie Johnson will sing live for an audience of millions tonight in the biggest moment of his fledgling singing career.

The 19-year-old from Gillingham has made it to the live rounds of BBC One’s The Voice after he was chosen to go through by mentor Kylie Minogue.

Now he is hoping family, friends and fans in Medway will support him as their votes could see him progress to the semi-final.

Posters and banners have been appearing across the Towns urging people to vote for the former Brompton Academy and MidKent College student.

Jamie said he was touched by the support he has received since he first appeared on the show back in January.

He also said the backing from his close-knit family – dad Matt, mum Sharla and sister Jessica, 17, have helped him considerably.

Since Kylie whittled her team down from seven to three and chose Jamie he has been holed up in a secret location in London preparing for the live shows.

He said: “Rehearsals are really hard, sometimes 12 hours a day. But you get a real buzz out of it and the experience has been just amazing.”

But he admitted that he is missing home cooking.

“I’m no chef, in fact I really can’t cook,” he said.

Jamie is lodging with fellow Team Kylie finalist Lee Glasson and said: “He’s not bad , so he does the cooking – otherwise I don’t tend to eat much.

“At home, my mum cooks but my dad is a great cook.”

Jamie wowed the judges with his performance of Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire at the weekend but has to keep his choice of song for tonight under wraps until the performance.

He said he is “really nervous” about his choice of song. It’s my biggest challenge yet. But I really want to go all the way.”

Tonight’s show is the first chance for viewers to decide who remains in the competition and who goes home.

All 12 artists perform and one person from each team will leave the competition, with the remaining eight artists continuing to the semi-finals.
