The owner of an Indian restaurant could face a £60,000 fine for employing illegal workers.

Two men, who were working at the Bas Bar in Strood, face being extradited from the UK after immigration enforcement officers searched the restaurant.

Three Home Office vans were spotted in Cliffe Road, Strood, last Thursday at 5.30pm.

Two Indian men - a 19-year-old who had entered the UK illegally, and a 28-year-old who had overstayed his student visa - were detained pending their removal from the UK.

A 38-year-old Bangladeshi man, who has an outstanding application but no permission to work, must report regularly to the Home Office while his case is dealt with.

Bas Bar must provide documents, such as passports, which show their employees have the right to work in the UK.

If the owner fails to do so they will face a fine of up to £20,000 per illegal worker which could equate to £60,000 in total.
