An inquest has opened into the death of dad who was killed in a horror crash.
Andy Millward died on Thursday, November 17 after his black Vauxhall was hit by a Renault lorry which overturned in Station Road, Strood.
Passer-bys rushed to the scene and attempted to clear rubble which had tipped out.
A huge emergency presence including police, paramedics and the fire service meant the road was shut in both directions for hours.
Today, an inquest at The Archbishop's Palace, in Maidstone, was opened by assistant coroner for Mid-Kent and Medway Sarah Clarke.
The court heard Mr Millward – who lived in Holly Road, Wainscott – was a groundsworker.
Miss Clarke said he was the driver of the car when a "large tipper lorry travelling on the opposite carriageway tipped over and trapped him, completely crushing him in situ".
She said Mr Millward was declared dead at the scene and identified by police from his driver's licence.
His cause of death was given as injuries consistent with having been crushed.
Miss Clarke said a police investigation was ongoing to establish if there will need to be any criminal charges so suspended a full inquest until a later date.
Following the crash, Mr Millward, 44, was described by family and friends as a much-loved man.
His mum Freda Law told KentOnline: "My son was much loved. He also leaves his three daughters and much-loved family behind."
Floral tributes were also left near traffic lights at the junction with Frindsbury Road.
One said: "You were more than an uncle to me, you were the best big brother I could ever wish for.
"The world is so cruel, I cannot believe you are gone. I will miss your face, smile, the laughs, dancing and times together."
Another, from his sister Selina, added: "I keep asking myself why have you been taken from us in such a tragic accident. Love you. You will always be in our thoughts and hearts, sleep tight."
Another said: "To my darling son Andrew, you will be sorely missed. You will always be in my heart."
A message, which appears to be from one of the many people who tried to rescue him, said: I'm really sorry me and others couldn't do much else. All wishes to your family."
A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and inquiries are ongoing.
He has since been released on bail until February next year.
