Dodgy toy helicopters which could kill a child have been found on sale in Medway.

Several remote-controlled toys were seized by Medway Council Trading standards officers in Chatham, after they were found to include an illegal two-pin plug.

As it is not a UK standard plug, it is feared any child who tries to force it into a socket could be electrocuted.

It comes a month after Trading Standards teams removed potentially deadly children’s hats from sale when they were found to have a strap under the chin which would not release under pressure and risked strangling a child.

Fake versions of merchandising from Disney’s Frozen movie have also been removed from sale, as well as counterfeit Disney phone covers and jumpers.

Officers are warning parents to check the seller's returns policy before buying anything, and take care when using temporary "pop-up" shops which can be hard to trace later on.

With electronic goods, they advise shoppers to buy from reputable stores and check parental controls are enabled to stop surprise bills.

They say presents should be checked straight away and any defective goods taken back immediately.

Medway Council’s community safety portfolio holder Cllr Peter Hicks said: "I’d urge parents to be extra cautious at this time of year.

"With shops being so busy, and parents in a rush to buy items, it can be easy for anyone to not think about safety or whether the product they are buying is a fake."
