Six kittens have been found in a cardboard box in Rochester.

The RSPCA were called to Ranscombe Farm after the tabbys were discovered in a lawnmower box without food or bedding.

They were only six to eight weeks old and riddled with fleas and worms, although physically well.

The kittens have been named Charlie, Chris, Georgie, Ronnie, Rowan and Sidney.

RSPCA inspector Rosie Russon said: “These poor kittens were dumped like rubbish in a cardboard box with no thought for their welfare or what will happen to them.

“The kittens are very nervous and it seems like they are not used to being handled. It may be that they are an unwanted litter or perhaps someone has found them in a garden shed and they are strays.

“Sadly the RSPCA do see a real influx of unwanted kittens particularly during the summer months and the answer to this problem is to always get your cat neutered.
