Twydall Library is closed from today as its transformation into a neighbourhood community hub gets under way.
The new centre will be larger than the existing library, and offer council services including help with council enquiries, more computers with free internet access, free Wi-fi and space for community groups.
While builders carry out the work a temporary library is open at 11 Twydall Green.
Medway Council’s community services chief Cllr Howard Doe said: “This is an exciting time for Twydall as we begin to transform the library and open up the space to create a central point in the community for local people to access council services.
“Community hubs have proved to be a great success elsewhere in Medway with one opening in Strood High Street last year and another in Hempstead.”
The library and community hub is expected to open in the summer.
