The M2 Medway Bridge will be closed to pedestrians for six months due to safety improvement works.

Walkers, runners and cyclists will be unable to use the river crossing route while National Highways upgrades and raises the height of the barriers on the bridge.

Work is set to begin on Monday, June 19, and is expected to finish at the end of the year. Whilst the closure is in place a shuttle bus service will take pedestrians across the bridge.

A National Highways spokesman explained: “The temporary shuttle bus service will run between 6am and 7.30pm each day.

“The bus will run from Wouldham Road on the south side of the bridge, every hour, on the hour. The first bus will leave at 6am, and the last one will be at 7pm.

“If you would like to take an alternative route to cross the river, or it’s outside of these hours, the A2 bridge remains open as usual.”
