Motorists have been facing delays on the M2 this morning after a three-car crash on the coast-bound carriageway.

Emergency services were called at shortly before 8am after the smash near junction 3 for Chatham.

Three people have now been taken to hospital, but according to police none of those are thought to have serious injuries.

The collision closed two lanes of the motorway and caused tailbacks which stretched back to junction 2 for Strood/Rochester.

Police say cars involved in the crash were a Ford Fiesta, a Nissan Micra and a Smart car.

Police, ambulance crews and firefighters from Strood were sent to the scene as it was believed one person was trapped in their vehicle.

The smash also caused a fuel spillage on the road and lanes three and four remained open while the emergency services deal with the incident.

The slip road to the A229 and lane one of the motorway remain closed, but motorists were still being advised to avoid the area until the scene had been cleared.

The M2 reopened fully by about midday.
