A major gaming festival is set to take place in the Towns early next year.

Medway Rapture Gaming and Creative Festival is due to be held at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.

Chatham Historic Dockyard will host the festival next March

It is being supported by various organisation across the area, including the council which has given funding.

The local authority says the weekend event – on March 6-7, will have something for everyone – from gaming pros to novices.

As well as the contests themselves, they'll be interactive exhibitions for people of all ages.

The festival has a real-life submarine taking centre stage for a murder mystery activity, with more details to be revealed later.

They'll be three "core shows" taking place:

Gamers are expected to flock to the festival

Medway Rapture – a traditional gaming event with plenty for gamers and families;

Medway Creative – an arts, science, engineering, technology and videogames creation event;

Medway E-Sports – local university students and military teams will battle it out in virtual sporting events.

Medway Council leader Alan Jarrett

Council leader Cllr Alan Jarrett (Con) said: “The festival will provide an exhilarating weekend for families, as well as for developers and students wanting to be part of the future of gaming.

“We are working closely with European-wide gaming events company Fragers Ltd, which has previously held six successful Rapture Gaming Festivals across the UK, as well as Medway’s universities and MidKent College to give young people a voice in the planning stages and as part of our ambition for Medway to become a child-friendly city.

"The festival also strengthens Medway’s bid to become the UK City of Culture in 2025, offering a unique event for our residents."

There will also be guest speaker talks and workshops for those wanting to learn more about the gaming and digital industry, as well as Medway’s four universities and MidKent College showcasing what they have to offer to our aspiring young people.

Tickets will cost £15 for a single day ticket and £28 for a single weekend ticket, with group savings on offer.

The gaming festival ticket will give access to all the shows at the dockyard, as well as access to selected dockyard museums open across the weekend.
