Matthew Lycett, 23, charged in connection with armed robberies in Gillingham

A man has been charged in connection with two armed robberies and one attempted armed robbery over a three day period in the same town.

The first incident took place at a shop in Canterbury Street, Gillingham on Saturday. That was followed by an attempted robbery at a shop in Shakespeare Road on Sunday and a robbery at the petrol station in Watling Street on Monday.

Matthew Lycett, 23, has been charged in connection with these incidents and has also been charged with three counts of making threats with a knife.

The 23-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested at an address in Institute Road, Chatham, on Tuesday.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates Court yesterday where he was remanded in custody.

Lycett will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, November 16.
